    Thread processing

    9.11.1 general requirements

The processing, measurement, and inspection of the coupling thread should comply with the requirements of API Spec 5B. Do not use the method of expanding to achieve the required thread taper for couplings with API threads.

The additional requirements for PSL-2 and PSL-3 products can be found in Appendix H.

Note: Due to insufficient pressure between the coupling and the external thread, the anti leakage ability of the coupling with API threads may not reach the yield pressure inside the pipe.

    9.11.2  Coupling

If specified on the order, the casing coupling should be supplied in one of the end machining forms specified in Table C-1 and Table C-2 or Table E.1 and Table E.2.

If specified on the order, the oil pipe coupling should be supplied in one of the end machining forms specified in Table C-2 or Table E.2.

    000011.2 Surface inspection

9.12.1  All finished couplings should not have any defects that damage the continuity of the threads.

9.12.2  All couplings should undergo inner and outer surface inspection after final processing and before electroplating on the inner or outer surface. The circumferential magnetic field wet fluorescent magnetic particle method of ISO 13665 or ASTM E709 should be used to inspect surface longitudinal defects, or other non-destructive testing methods that have been proven to have the same sensitivity to the purchaser should be used for inspection. According to 10.15.4, records should be kept.

9.12.3  After consultation between the purchaser and the manufacturer, non-destructive testing is not required for H40, J55, and K55 steel grade couplings. However, internal and external surface appearance inspections should be carried out after final processing and before electroplating, and there should be no visible cracks, cracks, or pores. The marking requirements are shown in Table C.48 or Table E.48.
